Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “Blazing fast, powerful CPU and graphics card, plenty of RAM and disk space, and so much more! I absolutely love my new laptop! It is fast, easy to setup and get fully updated, and runs games better than my desktop does! I purchased the laptop during Amazon’s Prime day as a little bit of a splurge. My previous laptop was nearly 10 years old and was really showing it’s age, so it was time for a replacement. I will mention a few items that I’m less than pleased with. First is the number pad that overlays on the mouse pad. This is just a bad idea all around. Sometimes I press the Num Lock button on accident and when that happens the mouse pad stops working as a mouse. Plus, when I have a Bluetooth keyboard attached and activate the Num Lock, it actives the one on the mouse pad as well. Second, unlike other laptops of this price range, it only came with Windows 11 Home edition instead of Pro edition. So I had to pay to upgrade it as I prefer the Pro version as I have more control over the configuration of Windows itself. Last, I wish the display was a touchscreen display. But alas, it was not included with this version. But, all-in-all, I am pleased with the performance, quality, and appearance of this laptop. My hope is that this laptop will provide me with years of use and enjoyment! So far, it’s off to a great start!”
Customer Review: “Been using this for a little over a week now, the RTX 5060 performs superb! The screen is beautiful! Especially for being a laptop screen compared to an OLED display or monitor, it looks GREAT, the colors and overall image are very sharp looking. All of my games (AAA titles or otherwise) run at high or ultra settings with high frame rates and no stutter! Going to be upgrading RAM and storage down the line. Runs GTA V Enhanced on High RT over 100fps in most scenarios. I’ve also run Warframe with the “high preset” and runs over 120fps. It looks beautiful and performs beautiful! I’m very picky when it comes to frame rate/graphics (coming from an avid desktop user…I have high expectations) and this laptop performs as good or better than it looks! I’m impressed. The speakers aren’t super impressive, and aren’t super loud or anything I wish they were a little better, but they’re not terrible by any means, just not super LOUD, most gamers would probably be using a headset anyway for voice chat/streaming/gameplay anyway…don’t let this steer you away, this is a great laptop despite not having “the best sound system in the world”. I Don’t notice any excessive fan noise or overheating issues of any kind. I’m using it everyday for gaming and I can’t leave it alone! When I have lan parties at friends houses, my trusty machine comes with me! I’m always excited to open the lid, plug it in and start gaming! The RGB lighting is gorgeous! It’s also fun to show off to friends and family 😉 I’ve owned many gaming laptops over the last 12 years or so, this is my second machine with an 5060 in it, and this one has been my favorite! Better than any of the rest!”

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “I wanted a new laptop for personal use as well as mostly moderate gaming, and this laptop is great for all my purposes (i9, 32GB RAM, 1TB storage). I consider the price I paid ($1746) reasonable compared with similar laptops, but it does go on sale sometimes. The laptop is a little on the heavy and slightly bulky side for casual use, but I wouldn’t have minded if it was even bigger than it is if that meant better cooling, less cost, etc. It really not too bulky for a gaming laptop. Size aside, it looks great. Stylish and sleek, and the customizable and dimmable keyboard backlighting is a nice touch. I like the keyboard layout for typing as well as gaming, I find it to be very functional. The number pad is small but usable. The function keys are well thought out (function keys for screen brightness, keyboard backlighting brightness, enable/disable touchpad, mute mic, etc.), which I find to be rare with laptops. There’s a light for function lock and mic muting. WASD are a different color for gaming. The laptop runs Windows 11 well and seems very fast and powerful (although I haven’t done anything yet to truly push its limits). The BIOS is pretty reasonable, based on my experience (IT professional). The MSI app with designated function key lets you quickly change the power mode for your purposes, although my limited experience with the AI mode has not been great so far (it throttled the power down when I needed it, reasons unknown, and it turned off the keyboard backlighting at night). I’ve only played a few games on it so far, but it handles Fortnite like a champ without needing its full capabilities (power setting on “balanced” works perfectly). I haven’t run into any major issues with other programs or OS yet. Worth noting, the laptop does not always shut down properly. I’ve had to disable sleep and hibernation in Windows, as the laptop frequently does not resume from those states gracefully. Sometimes the laptop does not shut down completely at all, and the Embedded Controller keeps the fans running indefinitely, until I hold down the power button to manually power it off. That’s not ideal, but for me it’s not too big a deal either. The laptop also runs hot when in performance power mode or when gaming. I would never use a gaming laptop without a cooling pad, but if you’re new to gaming laptops, take note. The laptop seems to manage its built in fans well (and there’s a keyboard function key to let you immediately turn all the fans on to max speed), but again, I advise a cooling pad with fans to ensure you don’t overheat it during any use more intensive than watching videos. Definitely don’t ever put this down on a soft surface (like a bed or couch) without a hard flat surface under it or you’ll probably melt it. The power supply is bulky, as you would expect for a laptop that needs extra power for gaming, and the power supply also gets hot. Best to keep it where it can easily cool when in use. The power cord has a third prong/ground. All around, a great gaming laptop for a reasonable price.”
Customer Review: “This one takes the cake. During the fourth of July sales going around from every major tech market, I did about two weeks of research only to come to terms that this was not only one of the cheapest options, but best priced options for everything that’s attached to the motherboard. I was pleasantly surprised when I fired everything up and ran a few benchmarks to see just how well it did right out of the gate. Note, this is all without anything overclocked here. I mainly wanted to do some benchmarks without any tampering just to see how it ran. Here is my results; Superposition benchmark – average 80 frames (Could of been higher if frame gen was included but not too bad) Cyberpunk 2077 benchmark – average 124 frames (Ultra settings maxed, excluding a few ray tracing options) Path of Exile 2 End Game maps – average 80 frames (High settings, Frame gen hasn’t been optimized in path yet, but runs amazingly well) Hogwarts Legacy benchmark – average 100 frames (Ultra settings, frame gen has slight stutter frames but runs exceptionally well) Pros: – Runs games exceptionally well – Price is possibly the best for what you’re getting – Though not OLED, the picture quality is very good – MSI and it’s features are nice if you haven’t tried them yet – Sleek and incredibly design Cons: – Is quite noisy – Does run a little hot, might consider a cooling pad for better heal levels in peak moments – 1TB might not be enough if you’re a serious gamer All in all, its an incredible laptop for what you’re getting. I’m thoroughly enjoying everything that it has offered thus far. All that’s left is to focus overclocking and pushing it to the limit.”

Complete Buying Guide for Best Macbook For Gaming
Essential Factors We Consider
When selecting the best MacBook for gaming, we look at several key aspects to ensure you get the most bang for your buck. First and foremost is processing power – the Apple M-series chips have proven incredibly capable, and higher-end variants like the M2 Pro, M2 Max, M3 Pro, and M3 Max offer significantly more GPU cores and overall performance suitable for gaming. Display quality is also crucial; look for models with ProMotion technology for smoother refresh rates and higher brightness for better visibility. Lastly, we consider thermal management, as sustained gaming sessions can heat up any laptop, and efficient cooling is vital for consistent performance. Even with a powerful machine, a stable internet connection is key; consider exploring the best way to extend WiFi for gaming to ensure uninterrupted play.
Budget Planning
MacBooks are generally premium devices, so “budget gaming” on a Mac might still involve a significant investment. The MacBook Air models, while excellent for general use and even some light gaming, are not typically the go-to for demanding titles. For serious gaming, you’ll want to consider MacBook Pro models, especially those with upgraded configurations. Think about what games you play; if they are graphically intensive, you’ll need a more powerful GPU. If you’re also looking for an external display to enhance your gaming setup, check out our guide on the best monitor for gaming and work, which can complement your MacBook setup perfectly.
Final Thoughts
While Apple doesn’t traditionally market MacBooks as gaming machines, the hardware capabilities of recent models, particularly the MacBook Pro series with M-series chips, are more than sufficient for a great gaming experience. By carefully considering your gaming needs and budget, you can find a MacBook that not only excels at productivity but also provides enjoyable gaming sessions. Remember to explore compatible gaming peripherals like a great speaker for your MacBook Pro to fully immerse yourself in your game’s audio.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can MacBooks actually play modern games?
A: Yes, MacBooks, especially the MacBook Pro models with powerful M-series chips, can play many modern games. While the game library might not be as extensive as on Windows PCs, games optimized for macOS or those available through cloud gaming services run very well. Apple’s own Metal graphics API has also seen significant improvements, allowing more developers to optimize their titles for Mac.
Q: Which MacBook Pro is best for gaming?
A: For the best gaming experience on a MacBook Pro, opt for models with more GPU cores. Configurations with M2 Pro, M2 Max, M3 Pro, or M3 Max chips, particularly those with higher GPU core counts (e.g., 16-core GPU or more), will offer the best performance. More RAM (16GB or 32GB) is also highly recommended for smoother gameplay.
Q: Are Macs good for gaming performance compared to Windows PCs?
A: Generally, high-end Windows gaming laptops still offer more raw graphical power and a wider selection of games directly compatible. However, MacBooks with M-series chips offer excellent performance-per-watt and can handle many demanding games, especially those optimized for the platform. For users already invested in the Apple ecosystem, a MacBook can be a very capable gaming machine.
Q: Do I need external hardware for gaming on a MacBook?
A: Not necessarily. A MacBook Pro with a good display is perfectly capable on its own. However, for an enhanced experience, you might consider an external monitor (check out the best monitor for Apple MacBook Pro), a comfortable gaming keyboard, and a mouse. For better audio, external speakers or headphones are a great addition.
Q: What about games that aren’t natively available on macOS?
A: You have several options! Cloud gaming services like GeForce NOW, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and Stadia (though now defunct) allow you to stream games directly to your MacBook. Additionally, tools like Parallels Desktop can run Windows on your Mac, opening up compatibility for many more games, though performance might be impacted.
Finding the right MacBook for gaming involves balancing power, display quality, and your specific gaming needs. While MacBooks might not be the first choice for hardcore PC gamers solely focused on maximizing frame rates in every title, they offer a fantastic, integrated experience for those who want a versatile device that can handle both productivity and play. Whether you opt for a powerful MacBook Pro or a capable MacBook Air for lighter titles, you’re investing in a premium experience. Don’t forget to consider peripherals like a comfortable keyboard skin for your MacBook Pro and a reliable carrying solution like the best backpack for MacBook Pro to take your gaming on the go!
