Customer Reviews

“This monitor is fantastic. I went from an aging Nixeus 27″ 1440p IPS LCD to an MSI MAG 27” OLED that broke within 6 hours, to this monitor, and am very happy with it. At under $500, it’s a solid price given the feature list. The response times (input lag) are fantastic, and it supports 240hz adaptive refresh rate with both Gsync and Freesync. It’s got HDMI and Displayport connectivity. And, it’s an OLED monitor. Being an OLED means the color reproduction is fantastic and damn near 100%, so coming from an LCD you’ll notice a huge boost to color contrast. Blacks will be black, not dark gray, and colors will be accurate, allowing you to notice subtle color gradients and other details you wouldn’t notice before. The monitor is easy to use, with a single control knob on the underside that allows you to both turn off the monitor and go into the settings. You can change things like brightness and picture mode, as well as “peak brightness” which impacts the max brightness your screen can hit in localized spots during HDR content. Overall, works great. I will say the colors don’t quite pop out as much as on the MSI MAG QD-OLED, but it’s also more color accurate and easier on the eyes. Trying to read anything on the MSI had my eyes watering and they felt like they were being poked, so I guess it’s sort of a gift that I had to return it and get the LG.”

– Customer Review

“I got this monitor for around 440$, for this value its absolutely amazing. Of course OLED looks fantastic but its also really smooth and has great colors. The refresh rate at this price is pretty good and the size for me works best, I’ve tried bigger monitors and for competitive gaming this size works way better for me so I’m not overly looking for the corners of HUD’s. The menu has all the options you’d expect also and it gets plenty bright for me. Cant speak on the stand as I immediately mounted it on a desk mount. It incredibly thin, like… wayyy too thin, its super cool, but sometimes I feel like I’m gonna snap it in half moving it closer or further away. I don’t think it would actually break like that just what it feels like so no big deal.”

Customer Reviews

“First off, let me get this out of the way – This probably isn’t the exact same model as the reviews you might have read about the other X27U monitors. Check the exact model number so there are no surprises. This model is substantially cheaper than those for a reason: the panel on it isn’t quite as nice as those. With that said, it’s still a phenomenal display. I have it next to a very good 27″ IPS display, and it just eats its lunch. You can’t even compare the two, it’s not a fair fight. You probably hear a lot about how good the blacks are, but something nobody talks about is how that makes colors look. When you have a crimson red on your IPS display, the nature of it introduces a little bit of grey. It looks good, but then you put that same color on this QD-OLED and its amazing the difference. Its an entirely different color that is richer, bolder, and genuine. Everything on the IPS seems so washed out while everything on this QD-OLED just pops off of your screen. The build quality is what you would expect from a budget OLED. Its plastic, the I/O has just enough ports, and you just have to look at it long enough to mount it. I can’t comment on the stand because this went from the box to a monitor arm. The display is glossy but its not a mirror by any means. Performance is great. I used a displayport cabled certified for high bandwidth and I had no uses when I set the refresh rate to 240hz. When I switched the input to HDMI and turned on my PS5, the PS5 showed that everything that you’d expect works. VRR, HDR, it just works out of the box. The display is a little dim, but I wouldn’t call it unusable by any means. I have my brightness pushed to 100 because I like a bright display and it gets bright enough where I am not complaining. Do I wish it was 50 nits brighter like the other models in this lineup? Yes, but even right next to the IPS display that is 300 nits, I don’t really think its that massive of a difference. I love a bright display and I know OLED just can’t do that. I could have bought another display that is 300 nits, but then I’d wish it was 350. If I got one that was 400 nits, I’d wish it was 450. This display looks good and that’s what’s important to me. Overall, I am giving this a perfect score. It has its flaws, but nothing that wasn’t there in the listing. It does exactly what it was advertised to do, and also blew out my expectations for in terms of colors, so 5/5.”

– Customer Review

“I’ve been extremely impressed with this monitor. The colors are absolutely amazing—vibrant, rich, and really make everything from games to everyday use look incredible. HDR performance is beautiful and adds a noticeable level of depth and realism that I didn’t have before. For gaming, this has been a huge step up. G-Sync works flawlessly, delivering super smooth gameplay with no tearing or stuttering. It genuinely elevated my entire setup and experience. This is by no means a budget monitor—and it shows. The build quality, performance, and overall experience feel very premium. There’s a feature that occasionally prompts you to refresh the screen, which I’ve seen some people complain about. Personally, it’s not an issue at all. You can simply choose to do it later, and I actually appreciate that it’s there to help protect the longevity of the panel. Brightness has also been a non-issue for me. Even in a well-lit room, I have no trouble seeing the screen clearly. Overall, if you’re looking for a high-end gaming monitor that delivers on performance and visuals, this is absolutely worth it.”

Customer Reviews

“Been using this for two days now and everything is great. I have a dual Xeon workstation and gaming PC connected via KVM. After I got everything hooked up I maxed out the refresh rate at 240 Hz. Right off the bat I got really bad flickering, like multiple flickers per second and only happened at 240Hz. Fortunately, the problem was with my DP cable. Even though it was a DP 1.4 it just couldn’t support that high of a signal. Bought a new one. switched it out, and everything is great. Now, if you were like me I hesitated because my monitor is shared for work and play. I didn’t know how bad the text would be considering how that is not a strong suit. The text isn’t as sharp as my previous monitor but not a big deal at all. As a matter of fact, I am already used to it and don’t think about it anymore. The blacks on this thing is absolutely amazing. The colors are so vibrant and rich and gaming looks so much better, even compared to a non OLED 4k monitor. The one thing that I was not too thrilled about is the auto dimming feature. If I switched from my desktop to MS word, you would see some minor dimming. I found out this is part of the built-in screen saving options. Not sure which ones so I turned them all off. I am not overly worried about burn-in. If it happens then I will use my 3-year warranty. By the way, make sure you register the monitor on Asus’s site. Now, add this to your cart and check out. UPDATE: I just upgraded to the PG27UCDM (review above was for the XG27AQDMG). For some reason Amazon won’t let me write an independent review, even though it is a different model so I am including it in this review. Without exaggeration, this may be the best monitor ever. It just took a few minutes to change the settings based on what I like. The colors are so vibrant and blacks are so deep. I seriously cannot think of anything on which to improve the quality on this monitor, except for one. There is noticeable flicking if I have VRR enabled. Certainly not a deal breaker but you can see it flicker if you pay close enough attention. Other than that, it’s perfect and worth the $$$$.”

“Love it! Have had it for maybe 3 weeks now no issues. Picture quality is great u definitely need the right HDMI cord that can support the type of quality u are trying to stream. Xbox supports 4K and comes with 2.1HDMI so I am able to use 4k at 60hz for watching things on this monitor and it will activate the HDR settings at that point. The only “con” I would say which isn’t really a con just an annoying thing is the pixel cleaning. I make sure to do it whenever I have the pop up bc I don’t want burn it but it takes like 6 minutes and sometimes I just wanna get right on and play but I have to wait. But it’s worth it for the longevity of the monitor. U do need speakers it has no speakers. I did see some flickering at one point I never knew what that was before but I only saw it the one time and after fixing my settings to turnoff VRR it stopped so that’s good. Picture quality u will have to mess with the setting a lot to see what u like best but there are 2 settings save slots so u can save ur settings and load them. I have1 setting for when im gaming i jus hit to load that pre saved setup and the when I watching something i switch to my other saved settings so i dont have to go through and change everything all the time. Also for playing games, I play rivals mostly, that cross hair feature is lowkey a cheat bc I can better see my cross hair than the actual game crosshair and it has a dynamic function so it changes colors depending on the colors on the screen so it’s never hard to see it always does a contrasting color to make it easier to see. It has come in handy a lot. In the photo that Red Crosshair on the screen that’s the one I’m talking about that it a feature of the monitor that’s not from the game. Definitely is worth the money. I used amazons payment plan bc it is kinda expensive but I think it’s worth it and I like the rainbow color lighting effects the symbol does on the back it’s cuteeee.”

Customer Reviews

“The media could not be loaded. It’s an OLED so its gonna be good. I didn’t have any text fringing or eye strain even after 4 hours straight use. Picture quality is great. Brightness is good enough for me. I’m impressed by the colors on it. It doesn’t get any better in this price. Now the cons are that the upper side of the panel is very thin so if I want to tilt it up or down with my monitor arm I’d feel more confident doing it holding the bottom part. The HDMI doesn’t support more than 165hz on this monitor so I had to use display port for that sweet 240hz refresh rate. You could use an HDMI to DP cable if you don’t have any display port option in your pc or laptop. The bezels are a bit thicker than I expected, You’ll notice it if you work or play in bright room. For me it’s no problem. My roommate has an Samsung g5 OLED and it feels smaller than that for some reason even though it’s same size. (Image quality is better than Samsung in this). It’s a glossy display, part of the reason why content looks better than Samsung g5. But in a bright room or average light room if you are watching something dark-ish you will see all the reflection on it. While gaming it’s not noticeable. Overall a little bit adjustment but very good for the price.”

– Customer Review

“For the price this is an excellent monitor. At first glance the monitor may look a little dim, but if you mess around with the settings you’ll see the burn in protection settings are turned on by default. Specifically “Uniform Brightness” which dims the entire monitor. Pretty sweet for web browsing and coding and stuff, where some elements might be in the same spot for a while. Turning it off however, makes the screen look fantastic. Super deep darkness with vibrant colors, especially if you take the time to find the right HDR settings. All in all for 360 dollars this is a stellar buy.”

Complete Buying Guide for Best Brightness For OLED Monitor

Essential Factors We Consider

When looking for the best OLED monitor for brightness, we always consider a few key things. First off, the raw peak brightness is important, measured in nits. Higher numbers mean the screen can get brighter, which is great for HDR content and for use in well-lit rooms. However, with OLED, it’s not just about the maximum. We also look at how well the monitor maintains brightness across the entire screen and how it handles different brightness levels for SDR content, as this affects everyday usability and eye comfort. The color accuracy and contrast ratio are also paramount, as an OLED’s strength lies in its perfect blacks and vibrant colors, which are enhanced by proper brightness settings. We also consider features like HDR support, refresh rate, and response time because even with great brightness, a sluggish or dull display won’t impress.

Budget Planning

OLED monitors, especially those with high brightness capabilities, tend to be on the premium side. You can find excellent options ranging from around $500 to well over $1000. Portable OLEDs, like the UPERFECT model, can be found in the mid-to-high range, offering a great balance of features for their price. If you’re on a tighter budget, options like the Acer Predator X27U show that you can still get a fantastic OLED experience without completely emptying your wallet. Always compare specs against price; sometimes a slightly less bright but otherwise identical monitor can save you a good chunk of change, which might be better spent on a quality monitor arm or other accessories.

Final Thoughts

Finding the perfect OLED monitor involves balancing brightness with other crucial factors like color accuracy, refresh rate, and panel type. The monitors we’ve highlighted represent some of the best in class, offering stunning visuals that will elevate your gaming, work, and entertainment. Remember, the “best” brightness is subjective and depends on your environment and personal preference, so utilize your monitor’s settings to find what works best for you!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the ideal brightness level for an OLED monitor?

A: The ideal brightness level is subjective and depends on your ambient lighting and personal preference. For SDR content, a comfortable range is often between 100-150 nits. For HDR content, OLED monitors can reach much higher peak brightness levels (often 500-1000+ nits in specific areas) to showcase highlights, but sustained full-screen brightness is lower to protect the panel.

Q: Can OLED monitors be too bright?

A: Yes, an OLED monitor can be too bright, especially in darker rooms or for extended periods, leading to eye strain. It’s important to adjust brightness settings according to your viewing environment. Also, excessively high sustained brightness can increase the risk of image retention or burn-in over time, although modern OLEDs have robust protection measures.

Q: How does OLED brightness differ from LED/LCD brightness?

A: OLED pixels emit their own light, allowing for perfect blacks and infinite contrast. This means an OLED can achieve true black by simply turning pixels off, which impacts the perceived brightness and contrast significantly. LED/LCD monitors use a backlight that shines through pixels, meaning blacks are never truly black and brightness is more uniform across the entire screen. OLEDs excel in localized peak brightness for HDR highlights, whereas LCDs might achieve higher overall SDR brightness.

Q: Should I use HDR on my OLED monitor?

A: If your OLED monitor supports HDR and the content you are viewing is HDR, then yes, you should absolutely use it! HDR dramatically enhances the visual experience by providing a wider range of colors and contrast, making scenes more dynamic and realistic. It leverages the OLED’s ability to produce bright highlights and deep blacks for a truly captivating image.

Q: How can I prevent burn-in on my OLED monitor?

A: To prevent burn-in, avoid displaying static images for very long periods at high brightness. Take advantage of your monitor’s built-in features like pixel shift, screen savers, and pixel refresh cycles. Varying your content and avoiding the maximum brightness setting for extended static elements are also good practices.

In conclusion, finding the best brightness for your OLED monitor involves understanding its capabilities and tailoring its settings to your environment. The monitors reviewed offer excellent brightness and visual fidelity, ensuring you get the most out of your OLED experience. Whether you’re a gamer looking for that competitive edge, a creative professional needing accurate colors, or simply someone who appreciates stunning visuals, there’s an OLED monitor out there for you. Remember to always check the latest prices and specifications before making your purchase!
